In the Design phase of DfSS the modelling of the quality is critical. Quality is often expressed in CTQs, or ‘Critical To Quality’ parameters. This is modelled by means of transfer functions, where the CTQs are described as a function of the design parameters. How you make a transfer function is described in detail in the post on DACE.
This article focuses on the question of what you can do once you have made the transfer functions. We do this by means of an example used by CQM in the workshop “Fact-based product and process improvement in the food industry“. The example is based on a fictional case.
